    Hi. I'm Juana.

I never imagined I'd be a writer. I wanted to sing and dance when I was a kid. I never thought of myself as a storyteller or a particularly sophisticated creator, but as luck would have it, here I am. I started blogging in 2014 and experimented with formats, resulting in essays, creative non-fiction, memoirs, some poetry, and even the development of a novel in progress.

I write about my personal experience with sexual and domestic violence, and telling my story has been immensely healing for me in a lot of unexpected ways. As I dig deeper into my own narrative, I find I recover the power I thought those traumas had taken from me forever. My hope is to facilitate the same for others by sharing the path I have taken to get here. As a friend once said to me, "Coming out of the fire feels good."

    It sure does.

I am now turning my attention to expanding my reach, developing writing workshops around trauma, and hoping to connect with more people who share my passion for social change. I'll be booking workshops in and around the Reno area for 2018, so if you're interested in hosting a workshop for your group, please feel free to get in touch. I look forward to connecting with you.

In the meantime, feel free to poke around my virtual space. I hope you enjoy your stay.
